About The Art & Artist

Rather than emulating the style of traditional sumi-e (black ink painting), I respond thoughtfully with my own technique that aims to capture a variety of images in the form of magical realism. The tonality of sumi allows me to create rich, velvety blacks and subtle grays. When sumi is accompanied by the vibrancy of acrylic ink, I’m able to create dramatic contrasts within my paintings. These contrasts represent varying aspects of emotion and how emotions are much more complex than we sometimes realize. 

Many of my paintings reflect elements or symbols of my journey throughout life and how that journey is shaped by the inspirations I find within nature. My artistic goal is to always allow viewers a moment of contemplation, even if it is to just pause and appreciate the splendor of nature and the world around us.  

I have since expanded my artistic medium to that of mixed media and collage, and am exploring the magic that can be made when incorporating ink with a variety of images and textures. My mixed media work focuses on celebrating the female form as well as femininity and romance.  

BIO

Kristina hails from The Columbia Gorge but has resided in The Land of 10,000 lakes for over two decades. Kristina is an artist, starry-eyed wordsmith, and childless cat lady.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Art Therapy from the University of Wisconsin - Superior and works full-time as a Direct Support Professional. Her debut poetry book entitled The Stars In Your Eyes releases in 2025. Her original illustrations can be viewed in the poetry book entitled Prompted by Jennifer Jones.
